  The Bible...trust in Faith or trust in Fact?

  i read the most extraordinary claim the other day.

  "the bible is factual.

  " i wondered, how could the speaker possibly back up such a claim?

  No Bible scholar of any repute makes this kind of contention. You are making a straw man to knock down.
  If this city or person lived it is evidence that the Bible is correct in this instance.
  It may add to the overall evidence of historical accuracy in other texts. I could use the information in this way: since the local newspaper has been accurate in the past, it is generally reliable when I read it today? Yes.
  Did Jesus walk on water? There are witnesses that say He did. Next we must test and see how reliable the witnesses are. Were they using metaphor or allegory to give a teaching? We can see the texts that the claim is that He literally walked on water......
  It goes on like this in an established methodology. Let's contrast this with the common methods that Bible critics use. If we do so then absolutely nothing can be proved at anytime in anyway. Did Alexander, Caesar, Ghengis Khan all conquor much of the known world? Using the critical method of skeptics nothing in history can be confirmed! Skeptics only want to use absolute criticism against Bible assertions. When one uses these same methods against their 'sacred cows', they howl and cry foul (viz. evolutionary and naturalistic theories).
  
  We come back to the usual situation we find here: you will believe exactly what you want to believe if you have enough presuppositions to carry you there. The challenge for all students and scholars is to approach a subject with the evidence at hand and not 'read into it' what they want to believe. Do I have axioms and presuppositions? Of course I do but no more than most of thsoe who sit in the other 'camp'.

  Did God ever grant what you asked for in prayer?

  i was an active witness, and i didn't feel as if god granted anything i asked for in prayers.

  i didn't ask anything out of the ordinary.

  since the witnesses say that they are god's followers and that he blesses them, i wonder in what way he blesses individuals when they pray?.

  since the witnesses say that they are god's followers and that he blesses them, i wonder in what way he blesses individuals when they pray?.

  Isn't it possible that God was letting you know He IS out there and receptive to hearing you? I encourage you to pray and see what happens to confirm His presence in your life. If you have seen Point Blank's post please consider what it says carefully.

  OK, and how am I NOT doing that? I have always stood on context. Apologia does not mean you warp the context to explain some question. What it means is to offer a possible explanation for a question that is brought up. The problem here is that people want to retain their prejudices that they 'bring to the table': i.e. The Watchtower taught us that all churches except them were in error so badly that only the Watchtower could be trusted to guide us to salvation. I absolutely dispute that contention, it was a crock then and it is a crock now.

  I agree that there are moral examples, pro and con, that is one of the great things about scripture. I dispute her contention that she can judge 'higher moral ground' by tossing out scripture that she doesn't agree with. She says she is not doing that but it is obvious to anyone unbiased that she is doing just that! If she is so flippant about the teachings of her 'alleged' Lord, it is a true contradiction to then claim to follow that Lord.

  My prayers are answered very frequently, only stuff that God knows have been answered so may times I am no longer amazed. That is one reason that I am so sure of the truth of Scripture.
